Marilyn has over 25 years experience as a physiotherapist with postgraudate study in sports ( including dance )and occupational injuries.She has worked in the hospital setting where she was involved with rehabilitation of neurology patients including Parkinson's disease.
Marilyn has a background in classial ballet and modern dance. She taught aerobics over several years and also trained sports trainers through the Australian Sports federation.
For ten years Marilyn was Director of a regional sports injury and hydrotherapy service. This service included assessment and programmes for children with disabilities.
Post graudate study in sports medicine was a great asset to working with various sports clubs and Marilyn was also requested to assess dancers for suitability for tertiary dance training.
After working with physiotherapists trained in the Pilates method and Clinical Pilates in Melbourne and Hong Kong Marilyn started Knowbody studios in 2002. Marilyn's training and expertise in Clinical pilates involves training at the 4 levels with Dance Medicine Australia plus Modified pilates and Polestar courses.
Marilyn has presented lectures in back care in the industrial setting as well as introductory lectures on Pilates to health professionals. She has recently presented a discussion on the effectiveness of the Alexander Technique on balance to the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
Marilyn completed her 3 year full time training in the Alexander technique in 2002. Referrals for teaching the technique have continullay grown to include teaching students who require management of :-
RSI, Parkinson's disease, postural concerns for pregnant mums , babies & children.
Back and neck pain , sports and dance injuries.
Triahtletes, tennis players and golfers have also attended for lessons to improve their perfromance.
Having recently completed her white belt training in Nia dance, Marilyn is introducing the Nia Technique to Melbourne.
